Today is officially one full month since my Hidradentitis Supperativa surgery on both my right underarm and a smaller area in my groin. Today I go to have the stitches taken out of both areas......and.......hopefully get relief for a newbie. From what my surgeon has said, I gather that some folks get rid of all the specific sites that HS attacks. Generally, the groin area, under breasts, and under both arms. Of course that is pretty unpleasant and usually includes a great deal of skin grafting (yeah, not a fav pastime of mine), and is only in Severe cases. I capitalize Severe because that is how the docs say it, so that is how I think of it. And massive surgery is an option only if the disease does not respond well to topicals/oral meds. Well the good news is that thus far, no new cysts have developed in the two areas that required surgery. The new one, however, is an oldie, but a goodie, just under my gut, on the left side. This particular lump is kind of like the giant marshmallow man from Ghostbusters, as it continually grows at an astounding rate. And did I mention that it is rather painful? Because it is. And it hurts to bend at the waist due to this lovely lump. So, at today's visit, I hope to get relief at the surgeon's office. Good luck to me!
And to whomever wrote that song about lovely lady love humps or bumps, or whatever it is, I thank you. I will use that song as a battle song while I deal with this disease, and as soon as I figure out what the heck the song is all about. But in the meantime, I, too, have a battle cry for HS. So thanks.
