Wild & Crazy Weekend

This weekend has been a normal Shake Your Booty, Fly by the Seat of Your Pants, Call the Paddy Wagon, Rocking & Rolling grand time. Friday evening I worked on my dish gardens while the piggy dog, Elly, sat in the front yard and watched the world go by. When Glenn joined us after a long work week, he and piggy played together in the front yard while I finished up my gardens and cleaned up. We ended the evening with chocolate chip lactose-free ice cream blizzards. Saturday started out terribly (see ice cream) with my stomach upset for some unknown reason (ice cream anyone?). Hmmmm...I wonder. ;) As the afternoon progressed, as well as the evening with continued Gastrointestinal Hell, I rethought ending my long-term relationship with my good friend, Dairy. At some point during the evening, when I had ingested quantities of various medicines that would put an elephant in a coma, my Gastrointestinal Hell turned into a Tummy Heck, and I began to feel somewhat better. Then, I wanted to do a project, a crafty little project.*** Note: About 3 hours after waking Saturday AM, when I knew this day was going to be unpleasant and I began ingesting meds, I made a decision NOT to journey into public. I was afraid of getting arrested for either Public Intoxication or Indecent Exposure, one of the two seemed forthcoming.*** So, I gathered my blah candles and candleholders, and created MASTERPIECES! I wanted to be able to put items in the bottom of the holder and be able to burn a candle on it, without getting the items gunked up with wax. Glenn's solution to this was as follows: Remove all wax/marbles/rock hunks and pour boiling water on them. This worked perfectly and all marble/rocks were returned to their original condition. Then cut circles out of wax paper (each the exact diameter of the container). Put a minimum of 3 pieces of wax on top of each collection. Then, using a double boiler, melt some wax. While we could have reused old wax, I wanted a pure white layer of wax, so Glenn took a tall pillar, cut off the bottom, melted the wax and slightly heated the tall pillar to create a level bottom. Using wooden skewers, we pushed the wax circles on top of each base (made of either buttons, marbles or river stones). Using a small measuring spoon, we spooned the melted wax on top of the wax paper in each container. As soon as we were finished with one candleholder, we put it in the freezer. Within about 30 minutes, all 6 candleholders were done with set wax in each. Then, I took all the candleholders out of the freezer and let them return to room temp. I then selected candles for each and poof! pretty candleholders were born. Well, it was fun for me and Glenn, and it was a great way to spend another wacky weekend. AND~ now I love my previously blah candleholders!! So, enjoy your weekend whatever you do. Beth, Queen of Craftiness.
