What do you say?

What would you say if given this situation? A close friend calls you up and tells you that she is tired. After years of living with organ failure and rejection, she is tired of the pain and the meds and the tests, tired of living. How do you respond to that? Do you tell her to go ahead with her plan to stop taking her meds and just let her body reject her donated organs, ending in her death? Do you ask what her therapist has said about the matter? Do you maintain composure when she tells you that her therapist is in favor of this idea? Do you tell her that you've noticed a difference in her in the last few months, that same amount of time that she has been contemplating this? Do you acknowledge her stable spiritually? Or do you just listen to her while she tells you this, leaving a heavy weight in your heart when you hang up the phone? I don't know what the right answer is. But just the same, maybe you could send good thoughts her way while I go give this some thought. Thanks. Beth
